Ratio, proportion and rates of change
Scale factors and maps, ratio, percentage change, direct and inverse proportion, and compound units such as speed and density.
Geometry and measures
Perimeter, area and volume, circles, constructions, congruence and similarity, transformations, angles, Pythagoras’ theorem and trigonometric ratios in right-angled triangles.
Probability
Recording outcomes, the probability scale, Venn diagrams and sample spaces, and calculating theoretical probabilities.
Statistics
Describing distributions, mean, mode, median and range, tables and charts, and scatter graphs for two variables.
Key Stage 3 is where GCSE maths is really decided. The national curriculum asks for three things — fluency, reasoning and problem solving — across six areas of content. A gap in any of them follows a pupil into Year 10. These lessons find the gap and close it, in step with the school.
What this covers
In step with school
Lessons follow the year and the topics the pupil is on, so practice matches homework and tests.
Reasoning, not just methods
The curriculum asks pupils to explain and justify. That is practised alongside the calculations.
