What this covers in detail
A — Space, time and motion
Kinematics, forces and momentum, and work, energy and power. HL adds rigid body mechanics and Galilean and special relativity.
B — The particulate nature of matter
Thermal energy transfers, the greenhouse effect, gas laws, and current and circuits. HL adds thermodynamics.
C — Wave behaviour
Simple harmonic motion, the wave model, wave phenomena, standing waves and resonance, and the Doppler effect.
D — Fields
Gravitational fields, electric and magnetic fields, and motion in electromagnetic fields. HL adds induction.
E — Nuclear and quantum physics
The structure of the atom, radioactive decay, fission, and fusion and stars. HL adds quantum physics.
The current DP Physics guide, first examined in 2025, dropped the options and moved much of their content into the HL core. It is organised into five themes. These lessons follow that structure, at SL or HL, and connect the physics to the maths it depends on.

The IA is worth 20% at SL and HL. Lessons help design a sound investigation and analyse its data and uncertainties — the work stays the student’s.

Common questions
Which themes are HL only?
Rigid body mechanics, relativity, thermodynamics, induction and quantum physics are HL-only topics; all five themes are studied at both levels.
Do I need to take AA maths for HL Physics?
Not necessarily, but strong algebra and comfort with graphs matter. Lessons fill any maths gaps as they come up.
