A — Knowing and understanding
Explaining scientific knowledge and applying it to solve problems in familiar and unfamiliar situations.
B — Inquiring and designing
Writing a testable question and hypothesis, identifying variables and planning a safe, valid investigation.
C — Processing and evaluating
Presenting and interpreting data, drawing conclusions and evaluating the method and its improvements.
D — Reflecting on the impacts of science
Discussing how science is applied and its implications for people, society and the environment.
In the MYP, each school sets its own science units — so there is no single syllabus to follow. What every school shares is how science is assessed: four criteria, each worth 8 points. These lessons follow the student’s own units and practise all four criteria, from explaining concepts to designing and evaluating investigations.

Criteria B and C are the investigation and the lab report. Their structure is practised until it is second nature.

Is there a fixed MYP science syllabus?
No. The IB sets the objectives and criteria; each school designs its own units. That is why lessons start from the student’s own materials.
Can you help with just physics or chemistry?
Yes — whether the school teaches integrated sciences or separate courses in years 4 and 5.
