AP Physics C: Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism
The two calculus-based AP Physics courses, each with its own exam — one-to-one and online, with the calculus taught alongside the physics.
What this covers in detail
Mechanics
Seven units: kinematics; force and translational dynamics; work, energy, and power; linear momentum; torque and rotational dynamics; energy and momentum of rotating systems; and oscillations.
Electricity and Magnetism
Six units: electric charges, fields, and Gauss’s law; electric potential; conductors and capacitors; electric circuits; magnetic fields and electromagnetism; and electromagnetic induction.
AP Physics C is physics with calculus: derivatives and integrals are part of the reasoning, not an add-on. It is the course for students heading into engineering and the physical sciences. These lessons connect the calculus to the physics so neither gets in the way of the other.
What this covers
Calculus where it counts
Setting up the integral or the differential equation is the hard part. That setup is what lessons practice.
One course or both
Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism are separate exams. Lessons cover either, or both in one year.
The current exam
Both courses were revised for 2024-25 with a longer exam. Practice matches the current format.

Common questions
Do I need to have finished calculus?
Calculus taken before or at the same time is expected. Lessons fill in any calculus the physics gets to first.
AP Physics 1 or AP Physics C?
Physics C suits students strong in math who are aiming at engineering or physics. Physics 1 is the better first course for most others.
