What this covers in detail
Grade 7 (7.º ano)
Space (the Universe, the Solar System, the Earth and the Moon, gravity), Materials (substances and mixtures, physical and chemical changes, properties, separation techniques) and Energy (sources and transfers).
Grade 8 (8.º ano)
Chemical reactions (how they are explained and represented, types and rates), Sound (production, propagation, attributes and acoustic phenomena) and Light (light waves and optical phenomena).
Grade 9 (9.º ano)
Motion and forces, Electricity (circuits and their quantities) and Classification of materials (the structure of the atom and the periodic table).
Físico-Química starts in 7.º ano, and for most students it is the first subject where maths is used to describe the real world. These lessons make the ideas clear first — what a reaction is, why sound needs a medium, what a force does — and then the calculations follow.

Common questions
Is there Físico-Química in 5.º and 6.º ano?
No. In the Portuguese curriculum, 5.º and 6.º ano study Ciências Naturais; Ciências Físico-Químicas starts in 7.º ano. For 5.º and 6.º, maths tutoring is usually the better support.
Can lessons be in English?
Yes — in English, in Portuguese, or mixing both, always with the Portuguese terms the school uses.
