What this covers in detail
Grade 5 (5.º ano)
Water, air, rocks and soil as Earth materials; the diversity of living things and their interactions with the environment; unity in the diversity of living things.
Grade 6 (6.º ano)
Life processes common to living things; environmental threats and the integrity of the organism.
Grade 7 (7.º ano)
The Earth in transformation: an overall view of the Earth through its geological dynamics.
Grade 8 (8.º ano)
Earth, a planet with life: the conditions for life, the dynamics between Earth’s subsystems, and sustainability.
Grade 9 (9.º ano)
Living better on Earth: the human body, how it works, and quality of life.
Ciências Naturais runs for five years in Portuguese schools and lays the ground for secondary Biologia e Geologia. Lessons follow the class programme and shore up what has not landed yet: concepts, scientific vocabulary, and reading graphs, diagrams and practical activities.
What this covers
Year by year
Lessons follow the class from 5.º to 9.º ano, and go back when an older gap is holding up the new material.
Reading science
Graphs, tables, diagrams and practical activities appear in tests. Students practise reading them and answering precisely.
Ground for secondary
A solid base in Ciências Naturais makes 10.º–11.º ano Biologia e Geologia easier.
